History | HotelTonight was founded in December 2010 by the entrepreneurs Sam Shank, Jared Simon, and Chris Bailey. Shank, the company's CEO, had previously founded two travel startups, DealBase.com and TravelPost. In October 2014, HotelTonight expanded from same-day only bookings to allowing users to book rooms up to 7 days in advance. HotelTonight has raised and burned $80 million before it laid off 37 employees or about 20% of its workforce in 2015. In 2016, HotelTonight claimed it's profitable and planned for an IPO. It is estimated to have booked about $60 million in revenue in 2016. In March 2017, it raised another $37 million in its 6th round. |
