It searches other travel sites, from online travel agencies to airlines, hotels and rental car websites, and shows travellers prices from different vendors. Kayak also offers tools such as KAYAK Trips to help travellers on travel planning and trip management. KAYAK was reported to often showing lead prices a bit lower than the actual prices after you click through to the booking sites - sometimes only by a dollar or two, but often by $10, $20, or more. |
History | KAYAK was founded in 2004 by Steve Hafner and Paul M. English. Steve helped found Orbitz prior to KAYAK. The compare was originally incorporated in Delaware under the name Travel Search Company, Inc. The name was changed to Kayak Software Corporation in August 2004. KAYAK raised $196 million in 2007 and acquired a competitor SideStep. In 2010, it acquired the Germany based Swoodoo and JaBo Software, which operates checkfelix. In 2011, KAYAK began providing results in Bing's travel search section. In July 2012, KAYAK went public. In November 2012, it was acquired by Booking Holdings for $1.8 billion. The acquisition closed in May 2013, for $2.1 billion. |
