DescriptionCtrip is the largest online travel agency in China. It covers more small hotels in China than any other OTAs. Besides hotels and flights, it also sells train tickets in China, vacation package and guided tours. Ctrip has branches in 17 major cities in China and offices in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, United States, Singapore and Thailand. About 70% of Ctrip's transactions are completed through its mobile platforms, thanks to the popularity of mobile communication in China.
HistoryCtrip was founded by James Liang, Neil Shen, Min Fan and Ji Qi in 1999. It listed on NASDAQ in 2003. It bought 37.6% stake in eLong for $400 million from Expedia. The Priceline Group invested $500 million in Ctrip in 2014 and additional $250 million in 2015. In 2016, Ctrip acquired the Scottish meta search company Skyscanner.
